About the App

Truly Simple Symptom Log is built around a single conviction: health tracking should take seconds, not minutes. Most symptom trackers are overbuilt and cluttered with complicated graphs, gamification, mandatory onboarding, and subscriptions that make the act of recording how you feel a chore.

This app strips all of that away. It features a calm, minimal, one-screen logging interface that feels closer to a personal journal than a medical tool. It’s perfect for people with chronic conditions, people exploring cause-and-effect with their health, or anyone who just wants a friction-free way to log their mood and symptoms and then move on with their day.

There's an in-app purchase that allows you to lock the app and export your data, but all core features are available in the free version and can be used for free as long as you like.

Features

  • One-screen logging: Record your mood, symptoms, potential causes, and notes on a single page. No tabs or multi-step wizards.
  • Heatmap calendar: A color-coded monthly data view gives you an instant visual summary of how you've been feeling over time, so patterns become obvious at a glance.
  • Custom symptoms and causes: The app ships with sensible defaults, but you can add, rename, and reorder your own, complete with optional 1–10 severity sliders.
  • iCloud Sync: Logs sync silently and automatically between devices (between your Mac and iPhone, for instance).
  • Native on all platforms: Truly native experiences on both iOS and macOS, complete with seamless Light and Dark Mode support.
  • All core features are available for free: Paid "pro" version unlocks data exports and a biometric privacy lock.

Tips & More Info

• Play around with the color themes in the settings. You can choose from four curated palettes for the heatmap calendar (Rose & Sage, Coral & Teal, Lavender & Mint, Amber & Sky) to match your visual preference.

• Tapping any day on the calendar reveals a detail card showing every log entry for that day, including the exact time, mood, severity of tagged symptoms, and notes.

• Forgot to log a migraine yesterday? Just tap the live-updating clock on the log screen to reveal a compact date picker and backdate your entries.

• I built this app because I wanted a logging tool you could open at 2 AM when you feel terrible without being assaulted by bright accent colors or subscription prompts. It intentionally does not have user accounts, AI "insights," social features, or push notifications nagging you to use it. It's just a calm, private tool that sits quietly until you need it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the app free?
Yes, the app is completely free to download and use, but there's a "paywall" for two features: the ability to export your data (as a CSV spreadsheet or a printable PDF for your doctor), and a Privacy Lock (requiring Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode to open the app). If you'd like to unlock those features or just want to support further development of the app (and my work in general) it's a one-time $4.99 in-app purchase. No subscriptions.
What platforms are supported?
Currently, the app is available for iOS 17.0 or later and macOS 14.0 or later (I'll continue to make these apps as back-compatible as possible, but some of the visual elements and data structuring rely on capabilities offered by modern versions of iOS and macOS).
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
