Need a gentle tap on the shoulder? Truly Simple Nudges sends you customizable push notifications—at set intervals, specific times, or at random—to help you maintain better daily habits and routines.

This app was built to solve the problem of remembering to do little things throughout the day. Whether you need an ADHD aid to stay mindful and on task, a reminder to practice the 20-20-20 rule to reduce eye strain, or just a prompt to check your posture and stay hydrated, standard to-do lists and alarms are often too limited, rigid, or complicated.

Truly Simple Nudges is infinitely customizable. You can set up nudges that ping you evenly throughout a specific time window, set exact times you want reminders to trigger, or space them out entirely at random so that you don't know when they're coming. It operates purely via ambient push notifications without timers or bloated progress trackers, meaning it works beautifully in the background across your Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

There's a single, one-time in-app purchase that allows for more than three active nudges at a time, but all other features are available in the free version (and you can have as many inactive nudges as you like).

• Play around with the device-specific muting feature. It’s incredibly useful for things like posture checks or taking breaks from your screen; you can build the nudge on your phone, but toggle the "mute on this device" setting so it only actually pings your Mac while you're sitting at your desk.

• The random distribution option is fantastic for mindfulness check-ins or quick journaling prompts. Having your devices periodically ask "What are you thinking about right now?" at entirely unpredictable times during your workday can be a great way to break out of a rut or catch yourself spiraling.

• I built this app because I needed something ambient and unobtrusive. The native Apple Reminders app is great for specific appointments, but terrible for intraday, recurring nudges. I wanted something that would tap me on the shoulder exactly when I needed it, keep my different devices perfectly in sync, and then otherwise get entirely out of my way.

Is the app free?
Yes, the app is completely free to download and use, but there's a "paywall" for one feature: the ability to have more than three nudges active at once. If you'd like to unlock that feature (to have unlimited active nudges) or just want to support further development of the app (and my work in general) it's a $4.99 in-app purchase.
What platforms are supported?
Currently, the app is available for iOS 17.0 or later and macOS 14.0 or later (I'll continue to make these apps as back-compatible as possible, but some of the visual elements and data structuring rely on capabilities offered by modern versions of iOS and macOS).
